Gnumeric does no longer have a bonobo component. Seems it got disabled in version 1.4: http://www.mail-archive.com/gnome-components-list@gnome.org/msg00049.html Since there is no bonobo component anymore, Gnumeric can not be used with mozilla-bonobo. > In firefox, about:plugins prints : > Mozilla-Bonobo 0.4.2.1 > > File name: libmozilla_bonobo.so > This plugin uses GNOME Bonobo controls to display content inline. > > MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled > x-directory/webdav Yes > application/x-abiword AbiWord document Yes > application/msword Word document Yes > application/vnd.ms-word Word document Yes > application/rtf RTF document Yes > application/wordperfect5.1 Yes > application/x-applix-word Applix Words document Yes > application/vnd.palm Palmpilot database/document Yes > application/x-palm-database Palm OS database Yes > > I tried to play with gconf but only found an > "/apps/mozilla-bonobo/mime-types/ignore" key, nothing to actually add > mime-types. Mime types can not be added manually, mozilla-bonobo tries to automatically detect all mime types for which a viewer component is available. > Shouldn't the application/msexcel mime-type simply be automatically > registered > into mozilla/firefox when one installs mozilla-bonobo ? Yes, with the caveat that under some circumstances firefox will not detect that mozilla-bonobo's mime types have changed. In that case, the workaround described in the "configurability" section of the README is applicable. In any case, this particular problem is related solely to the fact that Gnumeric does not ship a bonobo component any more.
