I'm not sure where to go with the bug at hand; perhaps strace the process sometime when it freezes, while doing minimal other interactions with it? I would suggest to use some window manager which supports "shading", and then you can avoid the "mouse" events and only send a single "focus" event, then some keyboard activity, then an "unfocus" to kill strace. BTW, does it really never work? Could you give some indication when this happens, are you interacting with the window; how so?
