[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/code/id/yaz/ztest$ apt-cache show nunit-console
Package: nunit-console
Priority: optional
Section: devel
Installed-Size: 116
Maintainer: Jelmer Vernooij <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Architecture: all
Source: nunit
Version: 2.2.7-1
Depends: mono-jit (>= 1.0), libmono-corlib1.0-cil (>= 1.0), libnunit2.2.6-cil, mono-classlib-1.0 (>= 1.0)

This dependency should be libnunit2.2.7-1-cil in unstable distribution, as mixing testing libnunit-cil 2.2.6-1 and unstable nunit-console 2.2.7-1 is not the way to go.

This is actually correct. The package in testing is called libnunit-cil
- NOT libnunit2.2.6-cil. The nunit=2.2.7 source package generates a
libnunit2.2.6-cil package because 2.2.7 and 2.2.6 are API compatible.
See the CLI policy for details. How is this causing you problems?

Hmm. I probably interpreted my error situation wrongly. I had pinned all nunit packages back to 2.2. versions due to the inability to run 2.6. versions on Linux.

Then I removed the pinning in /etc/apt/preferences, and was not able to upgrade due to conflicts with a file from libnunit2.2.6-cil. I did erroniously assume it was a reference to the wrong package number which caused the problem.

Now I removed all nunit packages, and was able to re-install without problems versions 2.2.7-1, which I now can report working correctly.

Riddle resolved. Thanks for your help!

However, I find it still very odd that the nunit source package version 2.2.7-1 produces a binary package called libnunit2.2.6-cil, because it is binary compatible with the 2.2.6 version in testing, which by the way is called libnunit-cil and not libnunit2.2.6-cil ??

Wouldn't it better that the numbering fits such that nunit 2.2.7-1 generates a binary package named libnunit2.2.7-cil,

I think this numbering business is a major source of confusion ...
