Did you upgrade your BIOS? This completely solved the problem for me on a Gigabyte K8NF9 Ultra board, nivida chips. ATI is only in the AGP slot. disable_timer_pin_1 now actually prevents the machine from booting, so I had to remove that again, no special boot options are needed and it works great.
