Thanks for attaching offlineimaprc in upstream issue. I think I was able to reproduce the error with offlineimap3. And, in my setup the rootcause of the issue is same as #981063 and is fixed when I use the patch attached there. Can you please try the patch attached at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=981063#10 and confirm if that fixes the issue for you or not.
