Yes, there are known issues coming out of the X11R7.0 transition, see the Debian changelog. I expect things to improve when we upgrade to X11R7.1 in May, but I'll be monitoring the situation to look for specific fixes. The dangling symlinks may possibly mean defoma needs to reconfigure to allow for the move of fonts from /usr/lib/X11/fonts to /usr/share/fonts/X11.
