Control: retitle -1 vorta: please resolve issues that are blocking a backport Control: severity -1 minor Control: tag -1 confirmed
Dear Ilya, Installing packages from unstable/sid, or testing (bullseye right now) onto Debian stable is not a supported configuration. You are of course free to experiment, but this is a case where if something breaks, you get to keep the pieces and debug the state of your system on your own. For more information, see: https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian#Don.27t_make_a_FrankenDebian Please don't use FrankenDebian on a production system unless you are yourself ready to debug and fix any breakage. That said, I do agree that users of stable (buster right now) should have access to Vorta -- if at all possible :-) -- and to that end I have started working on a backport. While working on this I discovered blocking various issues, but these issues do not affect Vorta for unstable/sid and testing/bullseye. What this bug actually seems to be requesting is access to Vorta on Buster, and in a Debian context this should be achieved with a formal backport. Requests for backports should be sent to debian-backpo...@lists.debian.org (I've CCed the list), should never be filed on the BTS, and the priority of all such requests is "wishlist". When requesting a backport it is useful to CC the package Maintainer and Uploaders. I chose to set this bug's priority to "minor" on the off-chance that something in my packaging is not maximally correct. For example, the unversioned Paramiko dependency needs to be versioned, because a minimum version is required. I confess I ought to have noticed this sooner ^^ Please ping me for a progress update in two weeks. I believe that I have a functioning backport right now, but I need to take to take time to test it, and also to investigate whether the changes are appropriate for sid/testing. If the changes are not appropriate, a no-change backport will not be possible, but that's ok. I'm optimistic that the worst-case scenario is a delta between the source package in testing and the future source package in buster-backports. Thank you, Nicholas
