I'm having the same problem. I tried replacing -dSAFER with -dNOSAFER in the script (per https://github.com/bmjcode/tkDocViewer/issues/1) , but that didn't solve it for me. I'd love a work around besides using another program, such as briss. I use pdfxup a lot.
