I can reproduce it on Dapper. Are you sure you were using DejaVu
Serif? That's the only face with this problem.

It's not from an Indic script, it's just a "c" with an "aring"
partially overlapping it. It looks like a problem with anchors,
because I removed the anchor from "aring" and now it looks fine.
