Bug#966653: same version of grpc rubygem from rubygems.org works

Has there actually been any progress on these issues? With the latest 
update of gitlab I'm now forced to use the flawed versions of 
ruby-google-protobuf and ruby-grpc that keep on crashing ruby and rake 
processes... Before, I used to downgrade these packages after each 
upgrade as described above, but now the dependency of gitab is explicit.

Is there any workaround now?
