I ended up replacing the card with an mpt3 card and haven't had any
issues since. The problem was not resolved with the Areca 1882 but I
guess it will be buried in history :)

Did you get new hardware? What do you want to do with this bug report?
There are no actionable items for us, we cannot solve a hardware problem
with packaging changes :) so I'd rather close it.
