reassign 362696 checkinstall thanks I should have done this sooner, but...I ran plain "sudo make install" instead of "sudo checkinstall" and it worked. I've never had a problem with checkinstall before. Anyway, I'm reassigning this to checkinstall.
(By the way, I don't know why the signature on the first message was bad. I just used reportbug like I always do.)
