Please try pressing 'M', and disable marks, and report back if this
affects the performance.
OK, I wouldn't have believe in this before testing, but you're right,
showing marks slows down the UI. Hiding them solves this issue.
I let this opened, until it's fixed upstream, but I (normally) reduced
the severity.
