I've pushed the patch in #973052 to a new branch named bug-973052 in the https://salsa.debian.org/dns-team/unbound repo (on top of branches/1.9.0-2_deb10).
Hopefully one of the other DNS folks will review it and merge it if it
looks reasonable. Not sure whether we should release a new version with
just this fix, but it might be worth proposing it.
