The .otl extension was not recognized because the file
/usr/share/vim/vim63/filetype.vim did not get updated to show the action
to take with files containing the .otl extention. I installed the
package using Synaptic from sarge 3.1r1 cds on this machine as well as a
machine running an athlon 64 and a SATA drive with exactly the same
result. Both machines have the 2.6.8-2-386 Kernel.
