Right, I'll document it in deb-symbols(5). Adding support now would mean
that older version would not accept those, and also that the spacing
would need to be normalized before comparing the files, which seems
suboptimal.

To avoid this kind of confusion this was moved out to
deb-src-symbols(5), I guess you might have checked on an older dpkg
version? I'll also add an explicit ref to deb-symbols(5) in the
deb-src-symbols(5) to make the format layering more clear.
