Package: sanoid Version: 2.0.3-3 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer,
Sanoid package ships with a cron job that runs it every 15 minutes. /usr/share/doc/sanoid/README.md.gz suggests creating a crontab entry that runs every minute. I did this for root, and because that meant that it would run twice every 15 minutes, I randomly got errors like: cannot create snapshot 'HomePool/homes@autosnap_2020-08-30_02:00:01_hourly': dataset already exists CRITICAL ERROR: /sbin/zfs snapshot HomePool/homes@autosnap_2020-08-30_02:00:01_hourly failed, 256 at /usr/sbin/sanoid line 600. [fortunately, this does not seem to have affected the viability of the created snapshots] I think that /usr/share/doc/sanoid/README.Debian should be amended to advise the user not to create the cron job implied by the official documentation, as it is handled by the package. -- System Information: Debian Release: bullseye/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 5.7.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU threads) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_PROPRIETARY_MODULE, TAINT_WARN, TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_GB:en_US:en_GB:en Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages sanoid depends on: ii libcapture-tiny-perl 0.48-1 ii libconfig-inifiles-perl 3.000003-1 ii lzop 1.04-1 ii mbuffer 20200505+ds1-1 ii perl 5.30.3-4 ii pv 1.6.6-1+b1 ii zfsutils-linux [zfsutils] 0.8.4-2 sanoid recommends no packages. sanoid suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
