Loooking at the code, I ended up at https://sources.debian.org/src/salmon/1.3.0+ds1-1/debian/external/pufferfish/src/ksw2pp/KSW2Aligner.cpp/#L381 This is proper autodetection suitable for amd64, but trying to build salmon on arm64/mips64el/powerpc brings little value.
