tag 965235 + upstream thanks [ I actually excpected a bug report like this earlier, not only after > 1 week ;-) ] Hi, Am 18.07.20 um 00:01 schrieb Thorsten Glaser: > LibreOffice 7 presents itself proudly, in its splash screen, Which is only shown a few (milli)seconds and can trivially be disabled in the config ;-) > and in the bottom-left corner of the start centre, as… > > Personal Edition OK, this is annoying but can simply be avoided by not using the startcenter and starting the correct application in the first place ;-) > … and the About dialogue says: > > The Personal edition is supported by volunteers and > intended for individual use. Which is "hidden" unless you explicitely look at it. So IMHO not a big deal. When I first saw https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?h=libreoffice-7-0-0&id=fd94276fbbd3632b2241133900b995d75f9b14fc I immediately started a discussion on IRC. Flames aside, we came up with https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?h=libreoffice-7-0-0&id=5a782225adc069a9b39986f7ced37eb78e542ae3 so it's already not as a big thing it was initially. That "Personal Edition" in the title bar indeed would be unacceptable. > Does this mean a charity, company, etc. is supposed to not use > LibreOffice? (S(n)ide remarks in the direction of other text > formatting suites aside.) From the disscussion on IRC this seems to be a part of a marketing plan with what they want to gently nudge companies to pay $s or €s or so to "support" the ecosystem ;-( Not a big problem per se, IMHO. Just "Personal" is bad, in the same discussion above i suggested "Community edition" which Michael didn't want. > Does such a remark even belong into Debian (even if it’s in upstream)? > If it doesn’t apply, maybe a patch to not show it might be sensible. No, I am not going to patch this, as much as I don't like this either. If at all, one can disable the Startcenter in .desktop files so people won't actually see it most of the time unless they start with "libreoffice" :-) Anyways, there is: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2020/07/06/board-statement-on-the-libreoffice-7-0rc-personal-edition-label/ and https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2020/07/09/marketing-plan-draft-discussion-about-options-available-and-timetable/ (which sounds like "Community Edition" might be the outcome after all) Regards, Rene
