Kdenlive requires either VLC or Xine in order to preview a created .iso DVD image. You can observe this requirement by: 1. Installing Kdenlive on a fresh system (without vlc or xine-ui installed) 2. Navigate to File -> DVD Wizard and proceed through the first three pages of the wizard 3. On the final page of the wizard (Creating DVD Image), click "Create ISO image" 4. Click the "Preview" button If neither of these applications are installed, Kdenlive shows a dialog box stating that "Previewing requires one of these applications (xine,vlc)". It makes sense not to have the kdenlive package depend on or recommend either of these packages, since DVD image previewing is a less-than-prominent feature of Kdenlive, and Kdenlive handles the lack of these programs well by displaying a dialog box. However, it seems semantically correct to have the kdenlive package suggest vlc or xine-ui since they can "enhance its usefulness," as section 7.2 of the Debian policy manual puts it.
