There is no "ideological fight". This is just unnecessary if you build your own containers, like I do. Yes, with "bud" and Dockerfiles but without external Docker registry.
Since all Buildah functionality is available anyways, availability of Docker images in external registry warrants to "Suggests" or "Recommends" severity equivalent at best. Admin control over which Docker image libraries are allowed by default is more important. And since users have full control anyway through their personal configs (for rootless mode), the system-wide config allowing everything is completely unnecessary. -- Cheers, Dmitry Smirnov. --- If the truth offends, it's our job to offend. -- Satoshi Kanazawa --- Ignoring the Covid evidence: Far from following the science, the government turned its back on all available data. -- Alistair Haimes https://thecritic.co.uk/issues/july-august-2020/ignoring-the-covid-evidence/
