Package: dpkg
Version: 1.19.7
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

The following command shows
dpkg -L python3-minimal
/usr/bin/python3m
as one of the files that belong to the package.
sudo rm -f /usr/bin/python3m
removes the file and I expect dpkg -V python3-minimal to report it, but it does
not
dpkg -V python3-minimal
returns with no output and echo $? shows successful completion.
If dpkg -L shows a file, dpkg -V needs to follow it, even if it is a symlink
For that matter even if the target is removed it does not complain. However
sudo rm -f /usr/share/doc/python3-minimal/README.Debian
evokes a response from dpkg -V python3-minimal
??5?????? /usr/share/doc/python3-minimal/README.Debian
