Since it is now confirmed that every ghostscript package currently shipped by Debian (gs-gpl/gs-esp/gs-afpl) is broken (#294430, #256787) and unusable for IJS-driven printers for B/W, I have uploaded 3 debian packages to epsonepl project's download page,

You need the font package together with EITHER gs 8.00 or gs 8.14. They are just built from AFPL stock without modification other than the one-line fix for #256787 which is already integrated to GPL gs 8.15/AFPL gs 8.50 onwards.
