Ah, I was expecting most of these to be fixed when the bug for removing the transitional packages was filed some two years ago. Hm, maybe things even moved to the worse in the meantime. However, I still think it was right to finally remove the transitional packages after they have been around for seven years now. I am pretty sure most of the reverse dependencies can be fixed by trivially changing the package name in debian/control. For the others, the worst that could happen is that they'll need to adjust some hard-coded font paths - as I have already patched for grub2 in #912846 and as you have reported in #961355.
