Dear Maintainer, The safe/taint mechanism was removed from Ruby in version 2.7. It's now a no-op, and in Ruby 3.0 it will cause ruby-netcdf to crash. For example, you can reproduce the issue with this command: $ ruby -rnumru/netcdf -e 'puts NumRu::NetCDF.create_tmp' /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/numru/netcdf.rb:144: warning: $SAFE will become a normal global variable in Ruby 3.0 #<NumRu::NetCDF:0x0000563aa3714fd8> -- System Information: Debian Release: bullseye/sid APT prefers unstable-debug APT policy: (500, 'unstable-debug'), (500, 'testing-debug'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental-debug'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 5.6.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_CRAP Locale: LANG=pt_BR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=pt_BR:pt:en (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages ruby-netcdf depends on: ii libc6 2.30-8 ii libnetcdf18 1:4.7.4-1 ii libruby2.7 2.7.1-3 ii ruby 1:2.7+1 ii ruby-narray 0.6.1.2-3+b2 ii ruby-narray-miss 1.4.0-2 ruby-netcdf recommends no packages. ruby-netcdf suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
