Current glibc does not support TLS under 2.4 kernels (see #226716), so this is probalby glibc bug (some people call it feature). I'm going to install 2.6 kernel to check if the problem goes away. Naive aptitude install linux-image-2.6.16-1-686-smp fails with numerious errors, e.g. due to initrd generation scripts expecting /sys to be mounted, so I need some time to figure out how to fix things and write bug report[s]. > Officially we don't support 2.4 kernels anymore, whatever "deprecated" > means. > See http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/03/msg00007.html This document does not mention that (user-space) software will break under 2.4 kernels.
