Can you please try to remove the ` after the i in your name in the From: address? I suspect that this is the reason why your mails don't get through to the mailing list where they should be delivered to all the maintainers (and especially the lmodern experts). If we find this is the reason, I can ask the listmasters to fix it.

Yes, I'm just unsure whether we should respect *only* TMPDIR, or both for backwards-compatibility. >>Here comes the version with TMP set. It gives a completely different >>error message: >> >>> !!! Hm, what is the current state of lmodern, after you tried installing it? dpkg -l lmodern and what about its configuration files: ls /etc/texmf/updmap.d/10lmodern.cfg grep DebPkg /etc/texmf/updmap.d/10lmodern.cfg cat /var/lib/tex-common/fontmap-cfg/lmodern.list > No :-( It still fails like this: > > |Running updmap-sys. It seems there's no effect of TMP at all, and obviously your /tmp is indeed writable. So let's forget about that issue. >>kpsewhich --show-path map > That's okay. > updmap-sys: using map file > `/usr/share/texmf-tetex/fonts/map/dvips/tetex/dvips35.map' > [...] > file. However, a map file with different content has been found in > the obsolete location > /etc/texmf/dvips/ps2pk35.map If you did not modify those map files in /etc/texmf/dvips, better move them out of the way and finally remove them after all warnings have been dealt with. Or wait. What's the output of find /usr/share/texmf/ /usr/share/texmf-tetex/ -type l -xtype d > ===File /tmp/updmap.notmp.log=============================== exited successfully > ===File /tmp/updmap.tmp.log================================= same here. So obviously this was before you installed lmodern again. What we really need is the temporary file that was created by lmodern's postinst, or an updmap-sys run after lmodern installation.
