I'm packaging notcurses, and per my FTPMasters review, I've been attempting to move to a uscan-based repack with a Files-Excluded line in debian/copyright. I lost an hour or so to uscan failing in mk-origtargz, finally tracking it down to a malformed wildcard in debian/copyright. mk-origtargz prints no diagnostic in such a case, simply returning 1. It would have been very useful if mk-origtargz, and ideally uscan atop it, could have pointed me to the source of the problem. Eventually I worked it out with perl -x d:Trace, but even then the issue was not obvious.
