GNOME Shell is tightly coupled to corresponding versions of mutter
and gjs, so I don't think it's going to be realistic to support the
versions of gnome-shell and gnome-shell-xrdesktop diverging.
The GNOME team is close to being ready to upload GNOME 3.36 versions
of mutter, gnome-shell and gjs to unstable, which will make
gnome-shell-xrdesktop uninstallable and unbuildable.
To prepare for this, please update gnome-shell-xrdesktop in experimental
to version 3.36.x, and either be ready to upload it to unstable when asked
or give the GNOME team permission to NMU it into unstable. (I don't think
any of us have VR hardware, so we'd have to do this untested.)
Alternatively, if you'd prefer, we could ask the release team to remove
gnome-shell-xrdesktop from testing until a 3.36-based version is available.
