retitle 922103 column man page: most options need examples to make them understandable thanks OK, I am making progress at understanding -s:
$ echo axbxc|column -t -s x a b c So it is talking about INPUT columns. The man page should mention it. Anyway, most of the options mentioned on the man page need minimal examples with output to make clear what they do.
