Hello,

I'm also having a problem with synaptic; for more than a week it
hasn't functioned correctly: sometimes I can do "Reload", but no
packages show as upgradable. Sometimes synaptic claims that the
package cache is corrupted. Yet "apt-get" has continued to work all
along.

Just tonight, for example, synaptic showed nothing available for
upgrade. I ran "apt-get update; apt-get dselect-upgrade": that
downloaded and installed 200+ pacakges. I ran "synaptic" immediately
thereafter and it claimed the cache was corrupt.
