Package: xsane Version: 0.999-6+b1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation? `xsane` takes an exuberant amount of time scanning for devices on large networks, basically hanging the entire program and making it unusable. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Completely turning off all networking works, as well as running the program in a sandbox as `unshare -n xsane`, however both of those methods are a bit cumbersome to use, and I have not found any switches in the preferences for disabling the scanning for network (non USB) devices. * What outcome did you expect instead? That `xsane` starts normally and then lists available devices, and/or an option to entirely disable scanning over the network in the preferences. Below is a sample output of `strace xsane`: recvfrom(18, "\0\0\204\0\0\0\0\1\0\0\0\1%HP LaserJet 400 col"..., 2048, 0, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(5353), sin_addr=inet_addr("XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX")}, [16]) = 623 select(19, [18], NULL, NULL, {tv_sec=0, tv_usec=300000}) = 1 (in [18], left {tv_sec=0, tv_usec=281291}) recvfrom(18, "\0\0\204\0\0\0\0\1\0\0\0\1&HP Color LaserJet M"..., 2048, 0, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(5353), sin_addr=inet_addr("YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY")}, [16]) = 834 select(19, [18], NULL, NULL, {tv_sec=0, tv_usec=300000}) = 1 (in [18], left {tv_sec=0, tv_usec=290064}) -- System Information: Debian Release: 10.3 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.19.0-6-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_PROPRIETARY_MODULE, TAINT_WARN, TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_US:en (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages xsane depends on: ii libc6 2.28-10 ii libgimp2.0 2.10.8-2 ii libglib2.0-0 2.58.3-2+deb10u2 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.32-3 ii libjpeg62-turbo 1:1.5.2-2+b1 ii liblcms2-2 2.9-3 ii libpng16-16 1.6.36-6 ii libsane 1.0.27-3.2 ii libtiff5 4.1.0+git191117-2~deb10u1 ii sensible-utils 0.0.12 ii xsane-common 0.999-6 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.11.dfsg-1 Versions of packages xsane recommends: ii chromium [www-browser] 78.0.3904.108-1~deb10u1 ii cups-client 2.2.10-6+deb10u2 ii dillo [www-browser] 3.0.5-5 ii firefox-esr [www-browser] 60.8.0esr-1~deb9u1 ii lynx [www-browser] 2.8.9rel.1-3 ii sugar-browse-activity [www-browser] 202-2 Versions of packages xsane suggests: ii gimp 2.10.8-2 pn gocr | cuneiform | tesseract-ocr | ocrad <none> pn gv <none> pn hylafax-client | mgetty-fax <none> -- no debconf information
