According to other folks, the modules-assistant compiles madwifi just fine even with the error message.
Second, with the 1.0.8178-3 version of the nvidia kernel source, it is no longer looking for the header file that has gone missing from 2.6.16 that was in 2.6.15 and earlier, and so it compiles just fine now also. Since this problem is well known, covered in other bugreports, and a deliberate change anyway, please close this bugreport.
