Package: src:linux Version: 4.19.67-2+deb10u2 Severity: critical Tags: upstream Justification: breaks the whole system
Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? Upgraded Debian from 9 to 10. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Have tried various module options, also have tried not using bonding. * What was the outcome of this action? Driver soft-lockup, causing overall system instability and unusability. * What outcome did you expect instead? Driver should work with existing harware. Actual failure looks like this in dmesg: syslog:Jan 26 15:49:50 muug kernel: [734667.232433] bnx2x: [bnx2x_write_dmae:597(enp3s0f1)]DMAE returned failure -1 syslog:Jan 26 15:49:50 muug kernel: [734667.432133] bnx2x: [bnx2x_issue_dmae_with_comp:549(enp3s0f1)]DMAE timeout! syslog:Jan 26 15:49:50 muug kernel: [734667.432525] bnx2x: [bnx2x_write_dmae:597(enp3s0f1)]DMAE returned failure -1 syslog:Jan 26 15:49:50 muug kernel: [734667.632114] bnx2x: [bnx2x_issue_dmae_with_comp:549(enp3s0f1)]DMAE timeout! syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [ 1.358268] bnx2x: QLogic 5771x/578xx 10/20-Gigabit Ethernet Driver bnx2x 1.712.30-0 (2014/02/10) syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [ 1.358322] bnx2x 0000:03:00.0: msix capability found syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [ 1.358541] bnx2x 0000:03:00.0: part number 394D4342-34383735-30345430-473030 syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [ 1.459205] bnx2x 0000:03:00.0: 31.504 Gb/s available PCIe bandwidth, limited by 8 GT/s x4 link at 0000:00:01.2 (capable of 63.008 Gb/s with 8 GT/s x8 link) syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [ 1.459303] bnx2x 0000:03:00.1: msix capability found syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [ 1.459477] bnx2x 0000:03:00.1: part number 394D4342-34383735-30345430-473030 syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [ 1.502898] bnx2x 0000:03:00.1: 31.504 Gb/s available PCIe bandwidth, limited by 8 GT/s x4 link at 0000:00:01.2 (capable of 63.008 Gb/s with 8 GT/s x8 link) syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [ 1.503800] bnx2x 0000:03:00.1 enp3s0f1: renamed from eth1 syslog:Jan 26 15:51:52 muug kernel: [ 1.554228] bnx2x 0000:03:00.0 enp3s0f0: renamed from eth0 except that there are thousands of bnx2x error messages. Those interfaces cannot pass traffic. The interrupt storm or dmesg flood or something also renders the system unusable even through unaffected interfaces. These interfaces worked fine in Debian 9 mid-way through its lifecycle, but the current packages failed. I opted to try upgrading to 10, but this still fails in Debian 10. (I don't know the version of the last unaffected kernel, sorry - we were way behind by accident, and jumped a year+ in kernel versions.) I've found multiple issues around the 'net relating to this, all noting essentially the same behaviour. A regular "reboot" is inadequate to reboot (within 24hrs, anyway), I have to issue a "reboot -f". -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 4.19.0-6-amd64 (debian-ker...@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 8.3.0 (Debian 8.3.0-6)) #1 SMP Debian 4.19.67-2+deb10u2 (2019-11-11) ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-4.19.0-6-amd64 root=UUID=3142d5ea-ae76-4a19-b49d-5e5b16c796e6 ro quiet ** Tainted: POE (12289) * Proprietary module has been loaded. * Out-of-tree module has been loaded. * Unsigned module has been loaded. ** Kernel log: [ 12.859416] RPC: Registered tcp transport module.
