As already explained in my last reply, ident is not the default method
for TCP sockets for quite a while now.

Peter already explained why PostgreSQL shouldn't depend on an ident
server at all. So the only left thing I see is that postgresql-8.1
could add a 'Suggests: oidentd | ident-server'. Do you agree to that?
