Rhythmbox is not a portable music player, it's either inspired by iTunes, and iTunes typically doesn't remember things such as the "playing state" or what song was selected. However, I checked and Rhythmbox saves at least two things in the session information: - what "source" is selected (ie whether you had your library, your ipod, or a playlist open...), - what search string you typed.
