The only reason it was removed was due to Qt4. I know of no other reason why it wouldn't be suitable. The usual process to look for a sponsor is to upload the package to mentors.debian.net or if you plan to maintain the package in a team you can ask DDs in the team usually done via IRC or the team mailing list.
