* What led up to the situation? During an upgrade from Debian Stretch to Buster the apt-listchanges package shows noteworthy changes and usually warnings about modified configuration settings from the /usr/share/doc/samba/NEWS.Debian.gz file. * What happened? During the upgrade from Stretch to Buster only a note on changed systemd services is shown. So I expected the existing configuration to continue working, however, that was not the case. After some troubleshooting I found out that winbind was now required as mentioned in the upgrading section of the release notes for Samba 4.8. * What outcome did you expect instead? My expectation would be that the NEWS file includes the upgrading section contained in the upstream release notes (for 4.6, 4.7 and 4.8). Or at least there should be a pointer to the release notes. Note: The NEWS.Debian.gz files is unchanged from 4.9.5+dfsg-5 in the 4.9.11+dfsg-1 version of the samba package.
