Package: apt
Severity: wishlist

In a recent pair of related threads about using alternate identifiers,
it became clear that different folks prefer different kinds of
identifiers and not all of the preferred options are supported by apt.

I propose that this demand could be solved by adding support for an
Aliases field in the Release files that would contain all the extra
identifiers corresponding to a specific Suite/Codename that are supported for
use in the apt sources.

I think this is a better option than hard-coding support for specific
kinds of identifiers like years or versions in apt.
