To align the two names, it uses [Install] Alias=mysql.service This is suboptimal, as only when the service is enabled, that symlink is created. It would be better, if mariadb-server-10.3 ships a static symlink in package /lib/systemd/system/mysql.service -> mariadb.service Take network-manager as an example, where the upstream service file is named NetworkManager.service and the init script /etc/init.d/network-manager.
