Awesome!

Yes, afaik that's indeed what they're used for.

https://deb.debian.org/debian/doc/ also has documents we ship with the
doc-debian package (social-contract, constitution, bug-reporting etc.) _If_ we
choose to no longer ship the FAQ via the mirrors, we might also want to discuss
what to do with these other documents.

Some distros (e.g. FreeBSD, Slackware) still ship a FAQ via their mirror
network:

http://ftp.nluug.nl/FreeBSD/doc/faq/
http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/slackware/slackware/FAQ.TXT

Red Hat ships some info, but not really a FAQ:

http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/RedHat/ftp/redhat/rhel/rhel-8-beta/README

GNU did what we're discussing here: removing their FAQ from their mirrors:

http://ftp.nluug.nl/gnu/GNUinfo/README

"Information about the GNU project and instructions for maintainers
used to be available here. This information may now be found at
http://www.gnu.org/prep and in the Emacs CVS repository."

I couldn't find any faq-like document for fedora or SUSE on the mirrors:

http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/fedora/
http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/suse/

I personally like our mirrors to be somewhat self-contained by shipping
not just software but also some instructions.

I feel this should be discussed on debian-doc@l.d.o, reply-to set.

Bye,

Joost
