In a debian-devel thread of last week there was a > proposal¹ to improve this test. Could you maybe pick that up? I don't see a concrete proposal on that thread however I did have a thought - rather than whitelist in autodep8 (which I agree is not preferable) maybe which could use an XS- field in the debian control file for a package so that the package maintainer can manipulate the behaviour of the generate command directly, rather than having to have an associated change in autodep8 itself. This is adjunct to the misnamed package issue; for the oslo packages the module name is oslo.X, but the import path is oslo_X. This avoids having large amounts of automagic in autodep8 with the potential to miss future mismatches due to <insert here> other reason. Does that sound reasonable?
