Package: git-buildpackage
Version: 0.9.14
Severity: wishlist

Hi Guido,

First of all thanks for implementing import-ref: it takes care of the only
major step in my workflow which was not handled by git-buildpackage.

I'm here to report a wishlist item. When importing a new upstream
version with gbp-import-ref, gbp-dch is unable to detect the import and
bump the package version accordingly. I think it can *almost* do it, as
there is already a function that looks for the latest tag in the
upstream branch, but it's currently not able to do so. As a "pure git"
workflow doesn't need an upstream branch at all, gbp-dch should probably
look for the latest tag matching the upstream-tag format to better
integrate with import-ref.

If you agree this would be nice to have I can come up with a patch.

Cheers,

Paride
