   For instance, I see that the documentation represents a good amount
   of the package (and, perhaps, this would be a good thing to have in
   an Architecture: all package).

I never thought of the documentation as being that big.  But the
package is about 35 MB in size, and the documentation is about 6 MB,
so I see what you mean.  That sounds like a reasonable idea.

   This, perhaps, could also be done to other files under
   /usr/lib/mit-scheme, if they are not platform dependent (I'm mostly
   thinking of the *.bci files). If they are indeed platform
   independent, then it would be nice to have then "factored out"
   also.

They _are_ platform dependent, but since those files are about 12 MB,
I agree that they should be separated out.

I'll be happy to take care of this when I next have some time to work
on the package.  Right now I'm very busy teaching a class of my own,
using Scheme of course.  :)
