Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? Just upgrade from stretch do buster. It happens when minion id has 16 chars or if (in our case) any machine dns hostname is 16chars long * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I patched the _compat.py directly as shown here https://github.com/saltstack/salt/pull/51931 The upstream git project has the fix, but it is missing in debian package. * What was the outcome of this action? Applying the oneline fix made it work. * What outcome did you expect instead? I expected that upgrade from strech to buster won't broke my remote server. Thanks a lot for taking a look into this, Tomas -- System Information: Debian Release: buster/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.19.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=C.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_US:en (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages salt-minion depends on: ii bsdmainutils 11.1.2+b1 ii dctrl-tools 2.24-3 ii lsb-base 10.2019031300 ii python3 3.7.2-1 ii python3-crypto 2.6.1-9+b1 ii python3-systemd 234-2+b1 ii python3-zmq 17.1.2-2 ii salt-common 2018.3.4~git20180207+dfsg1-1 Versions of packages salt-minion recommends: ii debconf-utils 1.5.71 ii dmidecode 3.2-1 ii e2fsprogs 1.44.5-1 pn sfdisk <none> Versions of packages salt-minion suggests: pn python3-augeas <none> -- Configuration Files: /etc/salt/minion changed [not included] -- no debconf information
