OK, but please also mention what line number too.
(Workaround;
$ uni2ascii myfile.txt | nl -b a | tail -n 1
Invalid UTF-8 code encountered at byte 4074, character 4074.
134 # ===> ' localhost : 172.16.0.1 : 3ffe
)
I mean on the man page you say
8 BAD RECORD
Ill-formed UTF-8 was detected in the input.
so you should print the RECORD (line) number.
