Suddenly my smb shares stopped working. I found out that an unattended upgrade of samba-common hade replaced (!) smb.conf, for whatever reason: Excerpt from /var/log/unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrades-dpkg.log: ... Setting up samba-common (2:4.2.14+dfsg-0+deb8u12) ... Replacing config file /etc/samba/smb.conf with new version ... This is not something I'd expect to happen on package upgrade, at least not without being asked about it, which cannot be done for an unattended upgrade. Also, this was a security upgrade from deb8u11 to deb8u12, on which I'd expect it even less. This occured on debian 8.11 armel. // Alexander
