> Do you have network-manager-config-connectivity-debian installed or enabled connectivity checking via other means?
> Can you provide a debug log of network-manager please. See https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/NetworkManager/Debugging The good news is that this problem disappeared after the next aptitude update. But it remains a mystery. This morning I found the information I think you're looking for in /var/log/syslog.6.gz. During the time of this log, I did an aptitute update and rebooted, after which the wifi didn't work. I'm attaching the result of gunzip -c syslog.6.gz | egrep '(NetworkManager|Starting Flush Journal to Persistent Storage|wifi)' | xz -c9 /tmp/basil-syslog-selections.xz to this email. The file begins with wifi in working condition. Lines containing "Starting Flush Journal..." show when the machine is booting up.
