 Which emulator did you try? Do you see "Sound: Available sound
devices: ..." line in the output of your emulator and what does it
contain?
Do you also see "Sound: Opened device ..." in the emulator output?
Also interested about your setting, please run:
$ grep SoundDeviceName ~/.config/vice/vicerc
