I am afraid I still don’t understand. If the pam settings are misconfigured then why does it work as expected on Debian Wheezy and not on Debian Stretch?
Also if I supply the argument “enforce_for_root” to the following line to pam_pwhistory.so then everything works as expected on Debian Stretch. password requisite pam_pwhistory.so remember=10 enforce_for_root Please let me know.
